A Logistics Unit is a military unit that combines rapid airborne deployment with logistics support roles. Whether it’s a company rigging parachutes, a brigade sustaining an entire airborne division, or a specialized support brigade for special ops forces, these units are optimized to deliver essential supplies and support into environments where traditional logistics channels cannot reach.
The Airborne Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics is the senior staff officer responsible for all logistics functions within that division. This officer and their staff handle: Supply (ammunition, food, water, fuel, uniforms, equipment), Maintenance (repair of vehicles, aircraft, weapons, radios, etc.), Transportation & movement control (airdrop supplies, convoys, helicopters, parachute delivery), and Services & sustainment (laundry, showers, mortuary affairs, field services).
We had the opportunity to manufacture a custom challenge coin for the Airborne Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics. While the concept of the coin was pretty straightforward, the result was a unique keepsake that represents the award and the unit. They requested a standard round coin, but with the surface around the Arrowhead logo gouged away. This makes the arrowhead shape in the middle of the coin look as if it flies through the air.
Other than that, the other details are just some lettering and inscriptions with black backgrounds, which makes the arrowhead shape that was colored with high-quality, shiny enamel paint even pop more. This design is a sample of a ‘less is more’ design concept, which means simplicity and restraint often lead to greater beauty.
