SpaceX in 2024 used Massey Outpost, a test site at its Starbase facility in Boca Chica, primarily for cryogenic testing of Starship and Super Heavy booster prototypes. This allowed for testing away from the launch site, preventing disruptions to regular operations. The site also served as a location for static fire tests of Starship prototypes.
Massey Outpost was the central location for cryogenic tests of Starship and Super Heavy booster prototypes. It was also used for static fire tests of Starship prototypes, with Ship 26 (S26) being the first ship to perform a static fire test there on June 3, 2024. SpaceX acquired the land in 2022 to provide a suitable testing area for prototypes, ensuring minimal impact on the launch site.
We were give the task to build the SpaceX Massey Super Crusher Challenge Coin to commemorate the 2024 event. The design of the coin is somewhat classic, with all the vintage-looking patterns, letterings and sculptures on both sides of it. While the fonts used for the letterings were modern and futuristic, the overall look of the brass-colored metal coin is giving this design a vintage vibe.
The relief of the rocket and the cyrogenic device were engraved beautifully, with all of the curved shapes machined and polished smoothly. The coloring on the texts and the banners encircling them was done precisely so they are easily readable. This coin design combined the antique and futuristic elements in a perfect harmony.
