The Racine Fire Department’s Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) and Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) programs are innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing community health and emergency response in Racine, Wisconsin. The MIH program is a collaborative effort between the Racine Fire Department and Ascension All Saints Hospital, launched in May 2022.
The program focuses on providing proactive, in-home healthcare services to patients with chronic conditions such as heart disease and stroke. Paramedics conduct follow-up visits post-hospital discharge, offering medical assessments, education, and support to help patients manage their health and reduce the likelihood of readmission.
We were asked to manufacture a commemorative challenge coin for the Racine Fire Department and the MIH & TEMS programs. The design was relatively quite simple, yet it has small details such as their insignias and logos, with organic lines and small lines that needed to be carved and embossed so they could still be recognized even if they are in tiny dimensions.
The base coin material used is a bronze-colored metal, with a ‘brushed finish’, a texturing technique used on metals, where a series of tiny parallel lines are scratched onto the surface with a wire brush or polishing tool. The graphical elements on the design are all laid out by our team of graphic designers to make sure that everything is proportionally well-placed before we turn it over to our state-of-the-art machinery for the final production.
