918th Contracting Battalion Challenge Coin

This custom 918th Contracting Battalion Challenge Coin was created for the 918th Contracting Battalion (918th CBN), a specialized U.S. Army unit dedicated to delivering contracting support that keeps military operations moving. The 918th CBN helps ensure warfighters receive the supplies, services, and construction resources required to accomplish missions both at home and in deployed environments.

Their responsibilities span acquisition, construction contracting, contingency operations, and direct support to Army and Joint Force commanders. Headquartered at Fort Carson, the battalion’s work is closely tied to supporting readiness and operational success across diverse mission sets.

Designing the 918th Contracting Battalion Challenge Coin

When the 918th CBN approached us, they wanted a custom Army challenge coin that captured the character of their home at Fort Carson and its rugged Rocky Mountain surroundings.

To bring this concept to life, we designed a custom shape featuring a traditional rounded lower half with a Rocky Mountain silhouette forming the top of the coin. Rather than limiting the design to the standard circular shape, the mountains become part of the coin itself.

On the front, the mountain landscape is rendered in bold black and white, paired with carefully placed inscriptions highlighting the unit’s identity. The reverse showcases the battalion’s insignia and other unit elements using embossed metalwork and detailed color to give each part of the design clear definition.

This project demonstrates how custom shapes can incorporate a unit’s location, history, mission, or identity directly into the physical structure of a coin.
