U.PS. Navy Supply Officers are sometimes colloquially called “SuppO,” although this term is technically reserved for the Department Head, who is nearly always the senior Supply Corps officer at a command. They are also colloquially called “pork chops”, this nickname references the shape of the oak leaf insignia found on officers’ sleeves and collars, as it vaguely looks like a pork chop.

Commissioned officers in the Supply Corps practice a variety of disciplines, including supply management, expeditionary logistics, inventory control, disbursement, financial management, contracting, information systems, operations analysis, material and operational logistics, fuels management, food service, and physical distribution.

We were given the task of building a custom challenge coin for the Supply Officer of the USS Nimitz. The design concept that they requested was bold, classic, and exquisite. They wanted to put the image and the insignia of the USS Nimitz on the fields of the coin.

As with our other custom products, firstly the concert design is applied and refined by our graphic designers. A lot of times we also give our clients some alternatives or variants for them to choose from. Once the design is approved and finalized, we will have our computerized production machine to apply it to the chosen base material for the product. Finally, we will apply the finishing touch to the machined product, such as giving it layers of paint and protection or having it brushed for a pretty bare metal effect.
