The 181st Brigade Support Battalion, a.k.a. 181st BSB, is a unit of the Washington Army National Guard, headquartered at Camp Murray, Washington. It operates under the 81st Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT), providing essential logistical and medical support to ensure the brigade’s operational preparation.

The 181st BSB has been actively involved in both federal and state missions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the battalion supported state response efforts. In 2022, they conducted annual training exercises to reinforce their core competencies and rebuild team cohesion. The battalion has also participated in overseas deployments. For instance, Alpha Company was stationed at Joint Base Balad in Iraq, providing security and logistical support during their deployment.

We were given an order to produce a challenge coin with a clean look but still has a conventional coin vibe. On one side of the coin, the wanted to have their logo, the buffalo skull and their nickname ‘Mavericks’ to be engraved with a red background. And on the other side, they wanted to have some embossed relief of their rank and insignia, with some texts to accompany them.

The result is one eye-catching challenge coin. With one side colored with glossy bright red paint, the coin really glows and easily recognized from afar. The other side, even without paint applied, was given a brushed metal finish and really look elegant, giving the whole design a distinguished look.
