The Sergeants Major Academy, or SGM-A, is the pinnacle of enlisted professional military education in the U.S. Army, designed to develop senior noncommissioned officers into strategic leaders. Established on July 1, 1972, and located at Fort Bliss, Texas, SGM-A operates under the Noncommissioned Officer Leadership Center of Excellence and became a branch campus of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in 2018.
SGM-A’s mission is to cultivate agile, adaptive, and competent leaders of character capable of advising and leading at operational and strategic levels within joint, interagency, intergovernmental, and multinational environments. In addition to military education, SGM-A provides academic advancement through a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Workforce Development, awarded by CGSC.
We were given the task of manufacturing their 2025 challenge coin. The design concept is an elegant and conservative round-shaped challenge coin, with the SGM-A logo and insignias embossed on both sides. While it sounds simple, there were many elements that needed to be taken notice of carefully, as everything needs to be laid out evenly to create a beautiful design.
The images of the eagle and the insignias are relatively small in size, but you can see from the photos that we successfully sculpted them on the surface of both sides. Thanks to our computerized machine, all the design details we arranged digitally could be transformed splendidly into this challenge coin.
