The TCC Paramedics Program Class 50 is a specific graduating class of a paramedic training program at Tacoma Community College in Washington state. TCC is a well-known and highly respected community college in Tacoma, Washington. Its paramedic program has a strong reputation throughout the region for producing high-quality emergency medical services (EMS) professionals.
The Paramedics Program is an intensive educational and training course designed to prepare students to become Paramedics. A paramedic is the highest level of pre-hospital emergency medical provider. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic cognitive and psychomotor exams. Passing these exams is required for state licensure.
We were given the task of constructing an elegant but fun custom challenge coin for the “Class 50”, which means this was the fiftieth iteration of the paramedic program at TCC. This signifies a long-standing, well-established program with a deep history and many alumni.
The coin base design was quite common, a round-shaped metal coin with a rope pattern on the rims, just like classic challenge coins that we see in military units. But on the front side, they wanted an embossed image of a Bigfoot character wearing a paramedic outfit and carrying a bag of lifesaving equipment, with Mount Rainier as the background.
On the back, we put the ‘Class 50’ logo: A Roman soldier helmet with the numbers 5 and 0 on its sides, and their motto was inscribed above the logo.
