Merlin is a collection of rocket engines developed by SpaceX. They were formerly used on the Falcon 1, and are presently a part of the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles. Merlin engines use RP-1 and liquid oxygen as rocket propellants in a gas-generator power cycle. Designed with reusability in mind, the Merlin engines have been central to SpaceX’s efforts to reduce the cost of spaceflight through the recovery and refurbishment of rocket stages.

The Merlin 1D Vacuum (MVacD) is a version of SpaceX’s Merlin 1D rocket engine, specifically optimized to operate in the vacuum of space. The MVacD features extended nozzle, regenerative cooling, single engine per second stage. It uses liquid rocket engine optimized for vacuum operation, fueled with RP-1 (Refined Kerosene) and also equipped with Liquid Oxygen or LOX.

When they produced the 200th Merlin 1D Vacuum unit, they wanted to commemorate the vent and ordered us to manufacture them a challenge coin. They wanted something elegant but also colorful, and they requested the both sides to be engraved with their logos, with some letterings encircling them. While the overall concept was simple, the images to be etched onto the surfaces of the coin were quite detailed.

Thanks to our state-of-the-art machinery, as you can see on the photos, we were able to create a detailed lines and graphics on the fields of the coin. The bright and glossy paints applied to the smooth surfaces will guaranteed to hold for a long time. The result is one handsome challenge coin for another satisfied customer.
