The New Mexico Professional Firefighters Association (NMPFFA) is a labor union that represents paid, professional firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and other public safety workers across the state of New Mexico. It’s the collective voice for career firefighters in New Mexico, advocating for them at the state legislature, in their local communities, and in the workplace.

The NMPFFA represents career firefighters—those who are paid for their service. It is important to distinguish them from volunteer firefighter associations. While both groups share a commitment to public safety, their organizational structures and primary focuses are different.

While challenge coins are deeply rooted in military tradition, they have been proudly adopted by the fire service, where they carry a similar weight of honor, camaraderie, and recognition.

We had the chance to create a set of matching custom challenge coins and cuff links for the NMPFFA. They both used the “Maltese Cross” as the design base for the coin and the cuff links, one of the most recognizable symbols of the fire service, representing honor, courage, and sacrifice.

On one side, they wanted their logo embossed and colored with Red, Black, & White, as their original colors. And on the other side, they want us to sculpt a relief of the Greater Roadrunner, New Mexico’s state bird, painted in blueish grey, just like in real life. As for the cuff links, they have the same design as their original logo, finished also with glossy enamel paint.

Feel free to contact us at Embleholics if you are interested in making your own set of customized challenge coins & cuff links.
