This custom challenge coin was crafted for the 502nd Multi-Functional Company (Division Aviation Support), an essential aviation logistics unit within the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK–U.S. Combined Division at Camp Humphreys, South Korea. Often described as the “pit crew” for the division’s helicopters, the 502nd MC provides the critical behind-the-scenes support that keeps Army aviation mission-ready on the Korean Peninsula. Their responsibilities span maintenance, refueling, ammunition handling, supply distribution, and transportation—ensuring that the aircraft of the Combat Aviation Brigade remain fully equipped, operational, and ready to respond at a moment’s notice.
For their project, the 502nd MC requested a distinctive custom coin that incorporated both traditional and symbolic design elements. The final shape combines a circular base with a triangular upper section, creating a structured frame for the unit’s insignia and mascot. The coin was produced using a brass-colored metal finished with a brushed texture, allowing the engraved elements to stand out clearly. Enamel accents were applied to bring depth and clarity to the unit’s symbols on both sides.
One of the highlights is the Griffin mascot – it was first rendered digitally by our design team to capture the exact contours and expression desired, then brought to life through precise machine cutting and 3D etching. The final piece is a bold, dimensional challenge coin that reflects the strength, precision, and dedication of the 502nd MC.
