No, you do not need a design to order custom challenge coins. Embleholics artists build the coin design from whatever you already have.

What we can work from, in rough order of usefulness:

  • A unit crest, department patch, agency seal or company logo
  • A photo of a previous coin you liked
  • A rough sketch, even one drawn on paper
  • A written description of what the coin should show and say
  • Nothing but the occasion, the organization and any wording that must appear

Most orders start closer to the bottom of that list than the top. A description like “our unit patch on the front, the deployment dates and the ship’s name on the back, antique silver” is enough to produce a first proof.

You’ll receive a digital proof showing both faces before anything is manufactured, and you can revise it as many times as you need. Nothing goes into production until you approve it in writing.

Artwork and revisions are free. The design work is included rather than billed separately, so there is no cost to finding out what your idea looks like as a coin.
