Paying before production is standard practice across custom manufacturing, and it is safe with a supplier you have verified. What protects you is not the payment timing. It is the proof you approve first and the vendor checks you do before ordering.

Why upfront payment is the norm. A die is cut specifically for your artwork, and the coins carry your unit’s crest or your organization’s logo. They can’t be resold to anyone else. There’s no recoverable inventory, which is why custom manufacturers across every industry take payment before committing tooling.

What protects you:

  • Nothing is charged before you approve a design. Quotes and artwork are free, and revisions are unlimited. You can take a project to a fully designed proof at zero cost and zero obligation.
  • The approved proof is the specification. It’s the documented standard the coins are guaranteed against.
  • Verifiable business identity. SAM registration is a federal database you can check yourself: UEI F3AGRUW5RT53, CAGE 1AYR0, SDVOSB.
  • A traceable payment method. Card payment and purchase orders both leave a record.

What to do before paying anyone: verify the registration, look for a real project gallery, confirm the minimum and lead time are published, and make sure you’ve received and approved a proof.
